This conversation between Nabal and David shows the significance in expressing well wishes in prosperity. Say to him: ‘Long life to you! Good health to you and your household! And good health to all that is yours!. When we adopt this strategy, it will provide us with good guidance in acquiring and managing resources so that there will be minimal error or waste of valuable time, effort and resources. With this instruction, it is best to work and accumulate the necessary resources before constructing a house. This is an instructional method which will serve to guarantee success in building a house. “Work and then build” is the advice that the wise King Solomon is offering in this verse. Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready after that, build your house. Inviting the presence of the Lord will provide peace, love and harmony in the home. We must not leave our houses exposed to the attacks of the evil one but first seek God in protecting the perimeters of our houses. God’s abiding presence will always be with us when we seek Him in first dedicating our houses to Him. It is by seeking God that Solomon was able to experience God’s grace and prosperity. Solomon demonstrated the importance of seeking God in prayer in blessing, not just the house of the Lord, but also his personal dwelling. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

God is interested in all the affairs of our lives and even in daily maintenance and furnishing, His involvement is paramount in having a beautiful and well maintained structure. It is wise to seek the Lord for insight and guidance. It also requires wisdom to maintain a house as a lack of good care and maintenance can cause degradation or disrepair. The wise King Solomon seeks to guide individuals in cautioning them that in constructing a house, it is important to avoid the use of inferior material or cheap labour or fixtures that can compromise the quality of the building. By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4 nivīuilding a house takes wisdom and ingenuity. We should be guided by this pattern in building our houses as a solid foundation is vital in providing protection and stability.

This verse in scripture demonstrates that even with the involvement of architects who are very knowledgeable in their field, these buildings can collapse if they are built without the guidance of the chief architect. Even though Solomon had constructed palaces and castles, he was cautioned about excluding God from his plans as a foundation without God’s guidance can easily crumble. This is necessary as building takes labour and effort and building without God is meaningless. When Solomon chose to erect the house of the Lord, he was instructed by his father David to include God in his plans. Unless he LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. 1. Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.
